We are excited to bring you three great family-friendly activities – Festival of Lights, Deck the Downtown, and Festive Fridays – to enjoy and to help ring in the new winter season. In this blog post we’ll highlight each event to give you some more information. Each event is festive, unique, and filled with fun so we can’t wait to see you there!
When: Saturday, December 6, 2014

The Festival of Lights in downtown Frederick is a wonderful annual event. Along with a tree lighting in Crist Park, the Festival of Lights is a wintery and merry event that includes activities like horse-drawn carriage rides, a live ice sculpture demonstration resulting in an interactive ice sculpture, free photos with Santa, festive holiday performances and much more.
The whole family is welcome and everyone that attends is encouraged to bring a can of food or $1.00 to benefit Santa Cops. Want a cup of hot cocoa or coffee? In exchange you’ll receive a piping hot coffee or hot chocolate to drink and enjoy.
The Frederick Festival of Lights is also a part of the Carbon Valley Holiday Festival, a joint holiday celebration between Frederick, Firestone, and Dacono. This Holiday Festival is meant to provide you and your family with an entire day of holiday fun! Be sure to check out events held in Firestone and Dacono before joining us at the Festival of Lights!
Without the help of the Frederick community and the generous sponsors, the Frederick Festival of Lights just wouldn’t be possible. If you have interest in sponsoring or providing a donation for the Frederick Festival of Lights, click here for the sponsorship form and more information.

The Deck the Downtown contest in downtown Frederick, CO is a friendly competition between Downtown Frederick businesses to see who can create the best holiday display! 2014 will mark the second year of the Deck the Downtown competition and the best part about the event is that it will bring fun, seasonal displays to brighten your Downtown Frederick visits!
Mark your calendars for the first week of December and don’t miss out on the fun displays. After checking them all out you can vote for your favorite! This year we’ll be doing things a little differently and the Frederick Arts Commission will also be judging the Deck the Downtown participants so the winner will be determined by a combination of the popular vote and judge’s scores.
The 2014 Deck the Downtown winner will receive $500 courtesy of the Frederick Arts Commission, a free ad space in the Carbon Valley Consumer Report, a traveling Deck the Downtown trophy and, of course, bragging rights! The second place winner will be receiving $250 courtesy of the Frederick Arts Commission, as well as an ad space courtesy of the Carbon Valley Consumer Report. The third place winner will also be receiving ad space courtesy of the Carbon Valley Consumer Report!
In case you weren’t able to make it to our 2013 event, you can still see the displays for the Deck the Downtown contest by looking through the Deck the Downtown 2013 photo gallery.
